Approach to Therapy
I view all symptoms as the gateway to healing. When we experience any amount of suffering–emotional, physical, or spiritual–we are being given a gift to go deeper into who we really are. These symptoms can feel like torture when we ignore or suppress them. But when we turn toward them and use them for our personal growth, we become empowered in life and reconnect with our true self.
When our old wounds are left unhealed, they continue to guide our thoughts and actions (both consciously and unconsciously) and live in the psyche as unfinished business. From this place, we can feel disempowered to create any real change and inner peace can feel unattainable. In my work with clients, I use Gestalt psychotherapy techniques to help people heal through the past and cultivate a sense of personal power that empowers and liberates. This is how to use our pain as the gateway to our healing and to have our greatest teacher be those who caused us the most pain.
I also use a somatic technique called the Trauma Resilience Model (TRM). TRM is a brilliant technique that is part hypnosis and part somatic experiencing. TRM allows us to heal through trauma and feel resourced in the process. Because our body has a cellular memory for every painful experience, this process is powerful in the process of deep and lasting healing that transforms.
To empower my clients in their daily lives, I also use the enneagram to teach the principles of consciousness. The enneagram is a psychological and spiritual framework for personality. In Latin, ego literally translates to the word “I,” so your ego is your identity. Your ego also generates all the thoughts that are in the forefront of your mind, so when you identify with your ego you allow it to dictate your thoughts, urges, drives, and motives. When you allow your ego to guide your thoughts and actions, it becomes your patterned way of engaging with the world. This in turn becomes your personality. The root word for personality is “persona” and in Latin persona literally translates to the word “mask.” So your personality is your mask, and it’s masking your true self. Your true self is your spiritual nature, your own divinity. And as long as you identify with your ego, thinking that your thoughts are reality, you feel further away from your true self. The work I do with my clients is in large part helping them to reconnect with their true self and to live from this deeper place.
Lastly, I also have extensive training in psychological homeopathy. Homeopathy is the principle of “like cures like.” When the right remedy is given at the right potency and at the right time, a person heals in deep and profound ways. Anxiety, grief, fear, depression and much more can be effectively treated with homeopathy.
About Harmony’s Workshops
Harmony has created several groups and workshops to teach the principles of consciousness and healing to people struggling with various aspects of life. It is Harmony’s belief that all of life’s struggles are here to teach us how to go deeper into who we really are. When we use our challenges and suffering as the gateway to our healing and transformation, we transform in a way that is truly empowering. Marital discord, postpartum mood disorders, and general anxiety and depression are all gifts of healing when used as such.
